Hooghly : In a shocking incident, a police constable suicide attempted while on duty, leaving the force and the public in deep concern. The tragic event occurred on Thursday night at Imambara in Hooghly district, where constable Himanshu Majhi allegedly shot himself in the head with his service revolver while guarding the police lockup.

According to police sources, Majhi, a resident of Bankura, was stationed in the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and resided in the Chandannagar police barracks. He was set to take leave on Friday ahead of his scheduled wedding on March 3. However, for reasons yet to be determined, he attempted to take his own life, sustaining critical injuries.
He was immediately rushed to Imambara Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition remains serious, and doctors are closely monitoring his progress. The incident has sent shockwaves through the police force, prompting a high-level inquiry into what led to the drastic step.
Chandannagar Police Commissioner Amit P. Javalgi visited the hospital upon hearing of the incident. Authorities are investigating whether depression or personal distress played a role in the suicide attempt.
