New Delhi: In the aftermath of its dismal performance in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly elections, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suffered a setback in 22 constituencies, the party’s leadership has swung into action to analyze the reasons behind the loss. A high-level meeting convened today saw participation from winning MLAs, MPs, key organizational leaders, and representatives of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), as BJP strategists sought to chart a future course of action.

Minority & Dalit Vote Shift Costs BJP Dearly

According to sources privy to the meeting, a significant chunk of the party’s losses stemmed from minority-dominated regions, where it failed to secure 12 key seats. Analysts within the party are now focusing on ways to strengthen their grassroots outreach in these areas.

Further compounding the BJP’s woes was a visible shift of Dalit voters away from the party. The data-driven post-mortem of the election results indicated a decline in BJP’s popularity among Dalit-dominated constituencies, leading to disappointing outcomes. As a corrective measure, BJP leaders are strategizing to build stronger connections with Dalit communities and reinforce their presence in those regions.

Delhi Awaits Its Next CM

Despite the election results being declared on Saturday, the BJP has yet to finalize its pick for Delhi’s next Chief Minister. The decision is expected only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his international trip on Friday. If all goes as per plan, a BJP legislative party meeting will be held on Sunday, where the final name is likely to be announced.

Sources indicate that Jat leader Pravesh Verma, who secured a significant victory over AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, is currently the frontrunner for the post. However, other names, including women and Dalit leaders from eastern regions, are also being considered.

Balancing Representation in the Cabinet

The RSS, playing an influential role in shaping the government, has reportedly advised the BJP leadership to ensure that the new Delhi cabinet has representation from all seven Lok Sabha constituencies of the capital. Given that the cabinet can only accommodate a maximum of seven members, careful deliberation is underway to strike the right balance.

With crucial decisions hanging in the balance, Delhi’s political landscape is set for an intense week ahead as the BJP prepares to name its new Chief Minister and strategize for the future.
