Kolkata– A sudden fire outbreak in the Naihati Local train at Sealdah station in the early hours of Wednesday sent shockwaves through railway workers and passengers alike. The fire, which erupted around 4:08 AM, originated from the overhead wires, creating a tense situation at the busy railway hub.

Fire Erupts from Overhead Wires

Eyewitness reports suggest that sparks were first noticed from the electric pantograph of the train stationed on Platform No. 5. Within minutes, railway workers raised an alarm as flames became visible. Fortunately, no passengers were inside the train at the time of the incident, preventing a potential disaster.

Swift Action by Authorities

Railway officials acted promptly to disconnect the power supply between the pantograph and the overhead wires, preventing further escalation. Fire brigade teams rushed to the scene and successfully brought the situation under control before it could cause significant damage.

Meanwhile, to ensure uninterrupted service, an alternative EMU rake was arranged within minutes. By 4:19 AM, the first Naihati Local of the morning was back on track, preventing any major disruption to train schedules.

Railways Investigating the Incident

Following the incident, railway authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Initial reports suggest a possible electrical malfunction, but officials are conducting thorough inspections to rule out any underlying issues.

Passengers Heave a Sigh of Relief

The quick response by railway staff and fire brigade teams ensured that the situation was handled efficiently, averting any casualties or significant delays. However, the incident has raised concerns regarding the maintenance of overhead electrical lines and the overall safety of local train operations.

With lakhs of passengers relying on the Naihati Local for their daily commute, railway officials have assured that additional safety measures will be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
