Prayagraj: As Delhi went to the polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen taking a holy dip at the revered Sangam Ghat during the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. Clad in a dark saffron jacket and black track pants, with a Rudraksha rosary in hand, Modi’s visit has sparked debates about its timing and intent.

Before the ritualistic bath, the Prime Minister took a boat ride on the Majhganga river, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. While devotees gathered in large numbers to witness the moment, the political landscape back in Delhi remained heated, with opposition leaders questioning the PM’s decision to visit Kumbh on the very day of the elections.

A Coincidence or a Calculated Move?

The timing of Modi’s visit to the Kumbh, coinciding with the Delhi Assembly elections, has led to accusations of political maneuvering. The opposition alleges that the Prime Minister’s presence at the sacred Hindu gathering was a strategic move to reinforce Hindutva sentiments and sway voters in the national capital.

Adding fuel to the controversy, Modi shared a message on social media just before taking the holy dip, urging Delhiites to participate actively in the “festival of democracy” by casting their votes. The opposition claims this was a subtle attempt to influence public perception while physically remaining away from the polling battleground.

The Shadow of a Tragic Stampede

The Mahakumbh has also been in the headlines for unfortunate reasons. Just two days prior to Modi’s visit, a tragic stampede at the event claimed the lives of at least 30 people, raising serious concerns over the Yogi-led Uttar Pradesh administration’s handling of the massive religious gathering. The opposition has accused the government of underreporting casualties, escalating tensions in Parliament’s budget session earlier this week.

In this atmosphere of political scrutiny, Modi’s presence at the Kumbh has been interpreted by many as a calculated distraction from the governance lapses. With Amit Shah having already taken a dip at the Kumbh before the stampede, questions linger about the political messaging behind these high-profile visits.

A Significant Visit Amid Controversy

While the Prime Minister’s visit to Mahakumbh has been framed as a spiritual retreat, the underlying political connotations cannot be ignored. Whether this move will have any impact on the electoral results in Delhi remains to be seen, but it has undoubtedly kept the political discourse charged.

As the nation watches closely, one question lingers—was this a divine calling, or a well-timed political strategy?
