Kolkata: A brutal attack on a young woman EM bypass on Thursday night has ended in tragedy, as she succumbed to her injuries at NRS Hospital. The shocking crime, allegedly fueled by revenge over an extramarital affair, has led to the arrest of two individuals, including a woman, while a minor involved in the attack has been detained.
According to police reports, the deceased, identified as Rafia Shakil Sheikh, was in a relationship with Mohammad Farooq Ansari, a married man. The two were sitting at a tea shop near the bypass around 8:50 pm when they were ambushed by three assailants. The attackers, later identified as Farooq’s wife Shahzadi Farooq, their 16-year-old son, and a cousin named Wasim Akram, allegedly sought retribution for Farooq’s extramarital affair.
Farooq managed to flee the scene as the attack unfolded, leaving Rafia at the mercy of the enraged trio. Witnesses say the minor was the primary attacker, while Wasim Akram prevented Rafia from escaping. Shahzadi Farooq was also actively involved in the assault. Rafia suffered multiple stab wounds before collapsing on the roadside.
Police arrived at the crime scene shortly after receiving reports of the attack. The accused were swiftly taken into custody, and the minor was detained for further questioning. Authorities later recovered the weapon used in the crime. Despite being rushed to NRS Hospital in critical condition, Rafia was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Meanwhile, efforts to locate Mohammad Farooq Ansari have so far been unsuccessful. Police sources revealed that his phone has been switched off since the incident, and attempts to reach him have been futile. Initial investigations indicate that Farooq, who works with a car rental company, had taken Rafia to the bypass in a vehicle on Thursday night. Unbeknownst to him, his wife and son had been tracking his movements using his phone’s GPS. They followed him in another vehicle, closing in when he stopped at the tea shop. The driver of the second vehicle reportedly fled once the attack commenced.
Authorities continue to probe the incident, questioning the accused to uncover more details. Investigators believe the crime was premeditated, given the attackers’ coordinated approach and use of tracking technology. Legal proceedings against those involved are underway, with charges expected to be filed soon.
The shocking nature of the crime has left the community in disbelief, raising concerns over escalating domestic disputes turning into violent confrontations. As the investigation progresses, police are urging anyone with information regarding Farooq’s whereabouts to come forward. The case serves as a grim reminder of how personal vendettas can spiral into deadly consequences.
