Nandigram, West Bengal: In another act of political violence, a Trinamool Congress worker, Mahadev Vishy (52), was found brutally murdered in Nandigram on Thursday morning. His body, bearing signs of severe assault with broken legs and injuries on his hands, was discovered in front of his shop.
The Trinamool Congress has squarely blamed the BJP for the gruesome killing, alleging that Mahadev had received death threats from the opposition party in the past. The party further accused several BJP leaders, including Panchayat Samiti member Saheb Das, Bholanath Kamila, and Anup Maiti, of being involved in the crime.
The incident follows a recent visit by BJP leader Shuvendu Adhikari to Nandigram, a move that the Trinamool alleges has further inflamed political tensions in the region. The party claims that Adhikari’s visit incited violence and emboldened BJP workers to carry out such attacks.
The Trinamool alleges that Mahadev was kidnapped by a group of miscreants, allegedly sheltered by the BJP, on December 25th. Several BJP leaders, including those implicated in the murder, were reportedly attending a picnic at Brindavan Chowk on that day.
The BJP, however, has vehemently denied any involvement in the murder. The party has condemned the incident and called for a thorough and impartial investigation.
The murder of Mahadev Vishy has sent shockwaves through the region and raised serious concerns about the prevailing political climate in Nandigram. The incident has also reignited tensions between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP.
