Canning, West Bengal: In a major win against terrorism, West Bengal Police, in a joint operation with Jammu & Kashmir Police, arrested a Pakistan-trained terrorist on Saturday. The arrested terrorist, identified as Jawed Munshi, is affiliated with the banned terror outfit Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) and was wanted by J&K Police for the 2011 murder of a cleric in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, Munshi was posing as a shawl seller in Canning, a South 24 Parganas district bordering Bangladesh. He had reached Canning just two days before his arrest and was planning to flee to Bangladesh using the riverine route, the police said. Officials also revealed that Munshi was acting under instructions from the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), another designated terrorist organization.

Munshi’s arrest comes as a significant development in India’s fight against terrorism. His links to LeT and his attempt to escape to Bangladesh raise concerns about the continued threat of cross-border infiltration. The arrest also highlights the vigilance of West Bengal Police and their effective collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Police.
