Tragic Train Accident at Sodepur Station
A tragic incident unfolded at Sodepur railway station on Wednesday night when two young women lost their lives after being hit by a speeding train while attempting to cross the railway tracks. The shocking accident has raised concerns over passenger safety and reckless track-crossing habits at busy railway stations.
According to railway police sources, the unfortunate incident occurred around 9:30 pm when the Sealdah-Katihar Express was passing through Sodepur. The two victims were reportedly trying to cross from platform number three to platform number four, unaware of the approaching express train. Witnesses claim that a large crowd had gathered at the station premises due to the Shivaratri celebrations, leading to congestion and risky shortcuts being taken by passengers.
Eyewitnesses and officials reported that one of the victims’ bodies was discovered near platform four, while the other was found gruesomely entangled in the iron cow catcher at the front of the train’s engine. The body was only recovered after the train reached Naihati station, shocking both railway authorities and passengers onboard.
Adding to the speculation, railway officials noted that one of the victims had headphones around her neck, raising concerns that she might not have heard the approaching train. The identities of the deceased remain unknown as of Wednesday night, and authorities are actively investigating the circumstances leading up to the accident.
Following the incident, railway operations at Sodepur station were temporarily disrupted, and rescue teams were deployed to recover the bodies. At approximately 10:22 pm, after the remains were retrieved, the express train resumed its journey. Meanwhile, railway police have launched a detailed inquiry to ascertain whether negligence or distractions played a role in the fatal mishap.
This tragic accident has once again highlighted the perils of reckless railway track crossing, urging authorities to reinforce safety measures and awareness campaigns. As the investigation unfolds, commuters are reminded of the risks associated with ignoring pedestrian bridges and safety guidelines at railway stations.
