Bijapur (Chhattisgarh): In a tragic turn of events, a devastating Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast orchestrated by Maoists claimed the lives of nine individuals, including eight District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel and their driver, in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.
The incident occurred as a police van carrying the DRG jawans—a specialised unit trained to combat Maoist insurgency—was targeted in a deliberate ambush. According to initial reports, the Maoists planted the IED along a strategic route frequently used by security forces, triggering the explosion as the vehicle passed by.
The Attack
The blast was reported from a remote area of Bijapur, a district often marked by Maoist activity due to its dense forest cover and challenging terrain. The DRG team was reportedly returning from an anti-Maoist operation when their vehicle was attacked.
Eyewitnesses described a deafening explosion that left the police van in a mangled heap of metal. Rescue operations were immediately initiated, but the intensity of the blast left no survivors among those in the vehicle.
