Kolkata: In a significant move to ease the ongoing bus crisis in the city, a new bus route is set to launch this Saturday, bringing much-needed relief to daily commuters and IT professionals. From February 17, twelve brand-new buses will begin operations, with plans to expand the fleet to 20 in the coming weeks.

The newly introduced bus route, numbered KB 24, will cover a critical stretch from Hatishala to Kolkata Station, ensuring smoother connectivity for thousands of passengers. The route will pass through major points, including Kolkata Station, Ultadanga, Infosys, Nab Diganta, Narkelbagan, New Town, Salt Lake Sector V, Karunamoyee, Khanna, Shyambazar, RG Kar, and finally returning to Kolkata Station.

Each bus will operate six trips per day, addressing the growing demand for reliable public transport, especially among office-goers and IT professionals working in the bustling New Town and Salt Lake Sector V areas. With improved connectivity, this move aims to reduce the dependency on private transport, easing congestion in the city.

West Bengal Transport Minister Snehashish Chakraborty will inaugurate the bus service at 2 PM on Saturday, marking another milestone in Kolkata’s transportation network. The introduction of these buses is expected to benefit thousands of passengers who have been struggling due to a shortage of public transport in key business and IT hubs.

With a growing need for efficient and comfortable travel options, this initiative is a welcome step in modernizing Kolkata’s transport system. As more buses join the fleet, commuters can look forward to a smoother and more reliable transit experience in the days ahead.
