Jadavpur University SFI Strike
West Bengal is witnessing a tense situation today as the Higher Secondary exams commence, coinciding with a student strike called by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI). The strike has been declared in protest against the controversial Jadavpur University incident, leading to a political war of words between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the CPM-backed student organization. The situation has raised concerns over potential disruptions for students appearing in the exams.
Political Clash Over Jadavpur University SFI Strike
The call for a statewide student strike by SFI has sparked intense reactions from the Trinamool Congress. The ruling party has strongly criticized the CPM student wing for their decision to protest on the same day as the crucial Higher Secondary exams. Trinamool leaders have accused SFI of attempting to create chaos and hinder students’ academic progress.
The SFI, however, has defended its strike, stating that the protest against the Jadavpur University incident is necessary and justified. The Jadavpur University SFI protest gained momentum after a student was allegedly injured when Education Minister Bratya Basu’s car hit him during an earlier demonstration. The student organization has demanded strict action against those responsible and accused the government of suppressing student activism.
Meanwhile, the police have issued a stern warning, stating that any attempt to obstruct examinees from reaching their examination centers will lead to legal consequences. Law enforcement authorities have been deployed in sensitive areas to prevent disruptions.
Trinamool’s Warning and Vice Chancellor’s Stand
Amid the controversy, Trinamool leaders, including MP Saugata Roy, have raised questions about the role of the Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University in handling the protests. The ruling party has indicated that necessary action will be taken against the Vice Chancellor if required. However, the interim Vice Chancellor has dismissed these warnings, stating that his primary concern is maintaining order within the university premises.
The Jadavpur University SFI protest has also drawn attention from Trinamool’s professors’ wing, Webkupa, and leaders like Kalyan Banerjee and Kunal Ghosh, who have criticized the Left for escalating tensions. The CPM, in response, has accused the government of attempting to suppress student movements and silence dissenting voices.
As the political drama unfolds, the biggest concern remains the smooth conduct of the Higher Secondary exams. Students and parents have expressed anxiety over potential disruptions, with many hoping that the administration ensures a peaceful environment for examinees.
The Jadavpur University SFI-led protest continues to be a flashpoint in Bengal’s political landscape. The coming days will determine whether this movement gains further traction or if the government succeeds in containing it. However, for now, the focus remains on ensuring that the exams proceed without any hindrance.
