Fire Spreads Rapidly, Black Smoke Engulfs the Area
Eyewitnesses reported that thick black smoke engulfed the entire area as flames spread from one car to another. Local residents were the first to notice smoke billowing from the garage and rushed to investigate. Moments later, they saw cars catching fire in quick succession, creating an atmosphere of chaos and fear in the densely populated neighborhood.
Firefighters and Locals Join Hands to Control the Blaze
According to fire department sources, they received an emergency call at 11:08 AM and immediately deployed three fire engines. Despite their swift arrival, the fire was difficult to control. Firefighters, along with local residents, made relentless efforts to douse the flames using water from external pipes and other available resources. After several attempts, the fire was partially extinguished, but officials confirmed that the situation remained critical.
Extent of Damage and Investigation Underway
Preliminary reports suggest that at least 10 to 12 cars have been completely burnt, though the exact damage assessment is yet to be determined. Authorities have not confirmed the cause of the fire, and an investigation is currently underway to determine whether it was due to a technical fault, short circuit, or foul play.
Residents Recall the Narkeldanga Fire Tragedy
This incident comes just days after a devastating fire in Narkeldanga, where 16 fire engines battled the flames for over four hours. Unfortunately, one person lost their life in that tragedy, prompting strict scrutiny and action from authorities. The local councilor was even issued a show-cause notice by the Trinamool Congress for lapses in fire safety measures.
Panic Among Residents, Authorities Urged to Improve Safety
Given the dense population of Arupota, the sudden blaze has left locals anxious about safety regulations in the area. Residents are calling for better fire safety measures, regular inspections of garages, and quicker response teams to prevent such disasters in the future.
As the fire department investigates the root cause of the incident, authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious and report any potential fire hazards immediately. Meanwhile, firefighting efforts continue to fully control the blaze and prevent further damage in the vicinity.
