Kolkata: Metro services on the Blue Line were severely disrupted on Thursday afternoon following a suicide attempt at the Kabi Nazrul Metro Station. The incident occurred around 4:28 PM, leading to the immediate suspension of services between Kabi Subhash and Tollygunge stations.
The station was evacuated, and power supply to the third line was cut off as emergency personnel responded to the incident. Both up and down lines were affected, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
Passengers returning from work faced significant delays and overcrowding at stations. Many resorted to alternative modes of transport, such as taxis and buses, to reach their destinations.
This incident marks another disturbing episode of suicide attempts on the Kolkata Metro. Recent concerns have been raised regarding safety measures, particularly following the installation of guardrails on the down platform at Kalighat station. Critics argue that the gaps between the rails are insufficient to deter determined individuals, and question the rationale behind installing them only on one side of the platform.
Metro authorities are grappling with the recurring nature of these incidents and are under increasing pressure to implement effective measures to prevent future occurrences.
