Three days after the horrifying discovery of a decapitated body in Dattapukur, police remain in the dark about the victim’s identity, intensifying efforts to trace the origins of the brutal crime.
The lifeless, headless body of a man, estimated to be around 40 years old, was found lying in an open field in Maliakur Bajitpur, Choto Jagulia, under Dattapukur police station on Monday. The corpse bore chilling signs of torture—tied hands and feet, deep wounds all over, and a shocking mutilation of the genitals. A blood-stained wine glass and a packet of chips were found nearby, adding to the perplexity of the crime scene.
However, with no severed head recovered and no missing person reports filed locally, investigators are now focusing on the victim’s left hand, which holds the only tangible clue—a tattoo. Inscribed on the hand is a heart symbol alongside the letter ‘B,’ a possible identifier that could lead police to the victim’s identity.
Despite relentless searches in surrounding areas, including extensive dives into nearby canals, the missing head remains elusive. On Tuesday, Barasat Additional Superintendent of Police Sparsh Nilangi visited the site, underlining the gravity of the investigation. Police sources have revealed that images of the tattooed hand have been distributed across various police stations in the district to determine whether anyone matching the description is reported missing.
Authorities strongly suspect that the victim is not a local resident, given that no family or acquaintance has stepped forward to claim the body.
