Kolkata – The 57th Garment Buyers & Sellers Meet and B2B Expo, organized by the West Bengal Garment Manufacturers & Dealers Association (WBGMDA), has commenced with grandeur at Science City, Kolkata. Spanning a massive 2 lakh square feet, the three-day event (January 11-13, 2025) is set to redefine the garment industry landscape, with over 900 national and international brands showcasing a diverse array of readymade garments for kids, men, and women.

Anticipated to generate an impressive ₹1000-1200 crore in business transactions, the expo highlights the thriving potential of West Bengal’s garment industry. In its 59 years of service, WBGMDA has consistently worked towards positioning the state as a significant player in the global textile supply chain.

Inauguration and Key Highlights

The event witnessed a powerful inaugural ceremony, graced by prominent dignitaries, including Smt. Shashi Panja, Minister in Charge, Child and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal, and Sri Sujit Bose, Minister of State for Fire Services. Esteemed personalities from the industry, including Sri Hari Kishan Rathi, President of WBGMDA, and other senior members, added to the occasion’s significance.

In his address, Sri Hari Kishan Rathi remarked, “The Bengal textile and apparel industry has consistently drawn international interest, particularly from Europe and the Middle East. With growing demand, the government’s initiatives to develop garment hubs are paving the way for new opportunities and sustained exports.”

The expo serves as a vital platform for fostering business collaborations and enhancing economic growth. As a prominent non-retail event, the Buyer Sellers Meet has emerged as a hub for established and upcoming garment brands in Eastern India. Over the decades, WBGMDA has successfully created a vibrant, modern, and competitive apparel industry, largely composed of MSMEs, which significantly contributes to GDP and job creation.

Sri Devendra Baid, Hony. Secretary of WBGMDA, highlighted, “Our biannual meets have continuously supported the growth of the readymade garment sector in India. This year’s event, approved by the MSME department, stands as one of the largest B2B events in the industry, bringing together buyers and sellers from across the nation and beyond.”
